Iranian Analyst Promises Reprisals Against US and its Allies Even if Israel Attacks Iran Without US Help

Appeasement invites aggression....

Iran's Fars News Agency, which is close to the country's judiciary and most hardline government factions, has published an interview with an Iranian analyst that seems to threaten the United States with retaliation for an Israeli attack on Iran ... even if the U.S. does not join in the assault.

Gloating over Israel's isolation, the article begins:

Israel has been left alone in its threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran, an analyst said, referring to the recent allegations by the regime's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that if Israel does not eliminate the Iranian threat, no one will.

"Netanyahu acknowledged that there is no will and power in the world community to confront Iran's might and influence in the Middle East region and this shows that the visit by the Zionist regime's prime minister to Washington and the meeting he had with US president Barack Obama were completely fruitless," a senior analyst on international relations Sa'dollah Zaree'i told FNA on Sunday.

He reiterated that Israel is in a situation that has no ability to perform successful military attack against any regional country.

Noting that any aggression by the regime against Iran could merely accelerate Israel's demise, Zaree'i warned that Israel threatens Iran from a weak stance but it should know that even a small attack by the regime will be reciprocated by Iran's pounding response.

"Iran's response will not be limited to the Zionist regime but its allies will also be within Iran's range and (will be included in the) military confrontation and will pay for their support for this criminal regime," he added.

West Bank Clash Could Spark Palestinian Civil War

Responding to a raid on one of its armed cells by its U.S.-supported rival in the West Bank, Iranian-backed Hamas, which already rules Gaza, could start a Palestinian civil war in the disputed territory that the United States and Europe want Israel to abandon.

Click here for the breaking news report, which begins: "Tension between Palestinian factions exploded in their worst violence in nearly two years as a paramilitary police raid left six people dead today in the West Bank, underscoring the risks for the Palestinian Authority as it moves forcefully, with fresh encouragement from President Obama, to disarm militants intent on attacking Israel."

Israel Holding Huge Civil Defense Drill

Israel is holding the biggest civil-defense drill in its history--a five-day exercise, code-named Turning Point 3.

Amid growing tensions with Iran, Israel is training soldiers, emergency crews, and civilians for the possibility of all-out war.

The scenarios include massive missile attacks possibly with chemical or biological weapons.

The crisis Israel fears is a massive rocket and missile barrage on all fronts: from Iran in the East, to Syria and Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas in the North, to the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel's southern border in the Gaza Strip.

US Officials in Asia for Meetings on North Korea

A U.S. government delegation is winding its way through Asia this week to discuss how to respond to North Korea's latest nuclear test.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg is leading the group, which arrives in Japan Sunday.

The delegation includes Stuart Levy, the Treasury Department's undersecretary on terrorism and financial intelligence. Stephen Bosworth, the U.S. special representative for North Korean policy, also is expected to be part of the mission.

From Japan, the delegation travels to South Korea, China and Russia. The countries are part of stalled negotiations aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear program.

Obama's Appeasement Policy Fanning Flames of Aggression Ahead of Address Validating Islamism

As if to confirm that U.S. President Barack Obama's policies and upcoming address to "the Muslim world" are effectively emboldening Israel's enemies and strengthening Islamism by elevating an inherently intolerant and warlike religion to the level of a global political power, Reuters reports:

Obama's best chance to win over Muslims and Arabs was to use Washington's leverage on its Israeli ally, said Saudi political analyst Turad al-Amri. "By pressuring Israel, Obama will win in more than one area -- in terrorism, the Iran file, Lebanon."

The U.S. president has said Israel must halt all settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, a demand that sets him on a collision course with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

For PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat, Obama's task was to ensure creation of a Palestinian state. "People of this region don't want to hear words any more. They want to see deeds," he said.

In Kabul, Afghan lawmaker Sabrina Saqib said Obama's roots, as a black American with a Muslim father, meant he understood deprivation and would work to settle the Palestinian issue.

"One speech will not work, but it's good for a start," she said of Obama's planned address on Thursday. "When you pay homage to others and respect them, you enliven their spirit."

Iranian Missiles Can Hit US East Coast

Israel believes that Iran's long-range missiles can reach America's East Coast.

China Confidential analysts agree, and add that Iran and North Korea can already attack American coastal cities with short-range missiles tipped with North Korean nuclear warheads.

North Korea has a stockpile of nuclear warheads; and the missiles capable of delivering them can be concealed in shipping containers and launched from seagoing cargo ships flying so-called flags of convenience.

North Korea and Iran have successfully test-fired missiles from cargo ships.

There is no defense against that kind of attack.

China Confidential analysts add that the Axis of Nuclear Evil may have already deployed their attack vessels--with help from Venezuela. Inspired by the Cuban Missile Crisis, which resulted in an American non-interference pledge for the Castro regime, Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez has shown interest in developing a nuclear deterrent against the United States. Intelligence officers and agents from Iran and its Islamist Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, have established an important base of operations in Venezuela's capital, Caracas, and other locations in the South American country.

The Case for Calling North Korea's Bluff

From Collin Spears, via Brooks Foreign Policy Review, comes one of the most interesting and thought-provoking articles yet on the North Korean crisis. He writes:

If the United States and its allies want to denuclearize the Korean peninsula, and not just temporarily allay tensions, they must call Kim Jong-Il’s bluff by escalating the situation. As North Korea’s primary benefactor, China is the only nation that can force the North to dismantle its nuclear arsenal and return to 6-Party Talks. However, China will not exert such pressure, until the threat of instability on its border forces it to recalculate the utility of supporting the Kim regime. When the liability of North Korea becomes a greater threat to China’s internal security than the potential presence of American troops at its border, China will cooperate with the American alliance. Contrary to common media depiction, Kim is a rational actor. In fact, when scrutinizing North Korea’s conduct with the supposition that every action it has taken is for the preservation of Kim’s personal power, it is apparent that even the most provocative actions have been deliberate. America must use a realist approach to exploit these aims, if it wants to end the last great impasses of the Cold War.

Liberal US Pundits Rally Around Moussavi

Liberal pundits who support "engagement" with nuclear-arming Iran are encouraged by the possibility that a reform-minded candidate (relatively speaking) could win the country's upcoming Presidential elections. David Ignatius, for example, writes in today's edition of the Washington Post:

This isn't a nation of fanatics with suicide belts strapped to their waists. It's a real country, with proud, well-educated people who take their democracy seriously, even with the constraints imposed by Iran's theocracy. Like people throughout the Middle East, Iranians have been astonished by the rise of Barack Obama and the new opportunities he embodies.

Click here to read the whole article. Ignatius has excellent sources in the Obama administration. His piece can be seen as a confirmation of our late April report:

The Obama administration is banking on a so-called moderate Islamist, Mir-Hossein Moussavi, to win Iran's Presidential election this June. Administration officials are poised to accelerate "engagement" of Iran if the 69-year-old architect emerges as the victor.

The rival to Iran's Holocaust-denying President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is committed to continuing the country's supposedly peaceful nuclear power program. But Moussavi has offered "guarantees" that Iran's nuclear enrichment effort will not be used to make bombs and warheads. That tantalizing offer, coupled with his criticism of "extremism," has made Moussavi a left/liberal darling.

A Moussavi victory is likely to strengthen U.S. President Barack Obama's argument for "tough" direct diplomacy with Iran and make it even more difficult, politically, for Israel to attack Iran's suspect nuclear sites and menacing missile installations. The United States has warned Israel against military action; and, as China Confidential has reported, the Obama administration is considering ways of punishing Jerusalem if it disobeys the U.S. There could be condemnations and sanctions.

A Moussavi win would also spur left/liberal acceptance of the oxymoronic notion of moderate, or moderating, or reformist or reforming Islamism--choose your poison. Islamist sympathizers and appeasers in the U.S. and Europe are poised to point to Iran as an example of so-called Islamist democracy--a concept akin to Nazi or Communist democracy. In reality, Iran's political system is a unique, Shiite Muslim cross between theocracy and clerical fascism. The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rules; barbaric Islamic law (Sharia) is the law of the land; there are prescribed limits to freedom of expression and freedom to organize for political purposes; and a Council of Guardians decides who can run for office.

North Korea Could be Planning June 4 Provocation to Upstage Obama's Speech to 'the Muslim World'

China Confidential analysts say North Korea may be preparing a major provocation, such as a new nuclear test, more missile tests, or a border skirmish or maritime clash with South Korean forces, to coincide with and upstage U.S. President Barack Obama's address to "the Muslim world" from Cairo, Egypt, which is scheduled for June 4.

Other dates to watch: June 16, the date set for a summit between Obama and South Korean President Lee Mying-Bak in Washington, DC, and July 4, U.S. Independence Day.

Analysts stress that there is more to North Korea's nuclear/missile madness than mere attention getting, or, extortion, even. The North needs to test its weapons of mass destruction in order to improve them and become a full-fledged nuclear power capable of conquering South Korea, dominating Japan, and driving the U.S. from the region (meaning, South Korea and Japan) and deterring the U.S. from launching crushing counterattacks on the North that could theoretically include use of nuclear weapons.

China Confidential is the only media outlet that correctly predicted both North Korean nuclear tests, including predicting the exact test dates. Using open source intelligence and an international network of volunteer stringers and analysts, China Confidential has consistently out-reported the mainstream media on the twin threats to world peace--nuclear-armed North Korea and nuclear-arming Iran.

The Summit that Could Save the World

The United States should stop appeasing, appealing, and apologizing to its enemies, and start acting like a superpower.

Instead of begging, bowing, and submitting to the so-called Muslim World--elevating a religion to the level of a supranational power--President Barack Obama should stand firmly by his beleaguered and endangered allies, Israel, Japan, and South Korea, while reaching out to America's superpower rivals, China and Russia. More specifically, he should call for an emergency summit with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

The venue is immaterial. What matters is that the leaders lock themselves in a room and not emerge until agreeing on the outlines of an urgently needed, history-making alliance ... a Grand Bargain ... which will prevent the outbreak of new wars on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East, cause North Korea to disarm, and stop Iran--and the Taliban and Al Qaeda--from acquiring nuclear weapons.

That is what real diplomacy, as opposed to appeasement, is all about: preventing wars instead of making them inevitable, working with great power rivals, instead of with terrorists and barbarians, to bring order and stability to an increasingly dangerous and complex world.

Q & A on WW II Historical Analogies

Q: If nuclear-arming, Islamist Iran is Nazi Germany, nuclear-armed, Stalinist/Kimist North Korea is Imperial/Militarist Japan, democratic Israel is Czechoslovakia and the disputed West Bank is the Sudetenland, what country is Franco/Fascist Spain?

A: North Korea. The Korean crisis is the precursor to the coming confrontation with Iran.

Q: If Ahmadinejad is Hitler and Kim Jong-Il (or whomever is actually in charge of North Korea) is Tojo, which Axis of Evil leader is the new Mussolini?

A: Hugo Chavez.

Q: Who is the new Neville Chamberlain?

A: Barack Obama. His policy of appeasement toward Iran will make war inevitable on Iranian terms, just as Chamberlain's policy of appeasement toward Germany made war inevitable on Germany's terms. In fact, Obama's appeasement transcends the policy pursued by Chamberlain. The British Prime Minister, who was sincere in his desire to preserve peace, misread Germany's intentions; but he never sought to enter into an alliance with the Nazis. In contrast, Obama is trying to enter into a "Grand Bargain" with Iran in order to pacify Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Q: Is there a new League of Nations?

A: Yes. It is called the United Nations. It is allowing North Korea and Iran to defy humanity just as the League allowed Nazi Germany to defy humanity.

North Korea Could be Planning July 4 Fireworks

China Confidential analysts say North Korea is preparing even more missile tests--including launching a Taepodong-2 rocket capable of hitting Hawaii and Alaska--and at least one more nuclear test.

The Stalinist/Kimist state--a virtual vassal of China--could also be planning a major provocation around July 4 in order to overshadow American Independence Day celebrations.

Another Korean war is possible. In fact, it is probable. With tacit Chinese approval, North Korea has set in motion a dangerous dynamic that could easily escalate into an all-out war on the Korean Peninsula.

The U.S. could attempt to shoot down the Taepodong-2, which could give North Korea the pretext for attacking South Korea.

The North has vowed to attack both the South and the U.S. if North Korean ships suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction are stopped and searched.

The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea and another 50,000 in Japan.

Analysts expect Iranian nuclear and missile experts to assist and observe all North Korean tests.

North Korea Believes it Has Built a Nuclear Shield

North Korea believes it has built a nuclear shield, behind which, it can launch conventional military attacks against South Korea and threaten Japanese cities with destruction.

That is the view of China Confidential analysts, who correctly predicted both North Korean nuclear tests--including the exact test dates.

The North is likely to test U.S. resolve in the coming days, convinced that Washington will respond in measured and tentative ways to Pyongyang's provocations and acts of aggression.

U.S. troops in South Korea, numbering nearly 30,000, are sitting ducks in North Korean eyes.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration has basically responded to North Korea's missile and nuclear tests by getting tough with .... Israel ... to the delight of North Korea's nuclear-arming ally, Iran, which assists and helps to finance North Korea's nuclear/missile programs while vowing to incinerate Israel (ahead of wiping out America). President Obama's obsession with pressuring Israel to withdraw to indefensible borders seems to become more pronounced as the North Korean/Iranian threat grows more menacing.

The Jerusalem Post's Carolyn Glick reports on Israel's view of the axis of nuclear evil:

North Korea is half a world away from Israel. Yet the nuclear test it conducted on Monday has the Israeli defense establishment up in arms and its Iranian nemesis smiling like the Cheshire Cat. Understanding why this is the case is key to understanding the danger posed by what someone once impolitely referred to as the Axis of Evil.

Less than two years ago, on September 6, 2007, the IAF destroyed a North Korean-built plutonium production facility at Kibar, Syria. The destroyed installation was a virtual clone of North Korea's Yongbyon plutonium production facility.

This past March the Swiss daily Neue Zuercher Zeitung reported that Iranian defector Ali Reza Asghari, who before his March 2007 defection to the US served as a general in Iran's Revolutionary Guards and as deputy defense minister, divulged that Iran paid for the North Korean facility. Teheran viewed the installation in Syria as an extension of its own nuclear program. According to Israeli estimates, Teheran spent between $1 billion and $2b. for the project.

It can be assumed that Iranian personnel were present in North Korea during Monday's test. Over the past several years, Iranian nuclear officials have been on hand for all of North Korea's major tests including its first nuclear test and its intercontinental ballistic missile test in 2006.

Moreover, it wouldn't be far-fetched to think that North Korea conducted some level of coordination with Iran regarding the timing of its nuclear bomb and ballistic missile tests this week. It is hard to imagine that it is mere coincidence that North Korea's actions came just a week after Iran tested its solid fuel Sejil-2 missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers.

Analysts Assess North Korea Nuclear Threat Options

By Kate Woodsome

North Korea's second nuclear test and recent missile tests have renewed debate on how best to respond to a country that refuses to cooperate with the international community.

The North's tests and threats of military action against South Korea have drawn condemnation from Washington. But Tom Scheber, vice president of the Virginia-based National Institute for Public Policy, says the North's actions are putting pressure on Washington to prove it is not bluffing.

"Our allies are watching to see how we respond. Iran is watching to see how we respond to North Korea. And similarly, anything that Iran does, North Korea is watching to see is this just U.S. talking tough but doing nothing, and we can get away with this, or are there really consequences for these aggressive actions," Scheber says.

The U.S. Defense Department regularly conducts war games that simulate a response to attacks on the United States and its allies. Top national security officials plot the defensive strategies, while soldiers practice them in the field, as they did in March with South Korean forces.

Bio-Chemical Weapons

North Korea has more than a million troops and is believed to have huge stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons. Defense Department experts have estimated that an actual war on the Korean peninsula would cause hundreds of thousands of casualties.

Scheber says military action is not necessary, but a strong missile defense system is a critical deterrent. The Obama administration recently announced plans to cut the missile defense budget. Scheber says the president should reconsider.

"Failure to do so could unleash this cascade of proliferation and act against the very forces of controlling proliferation that we seek to keep under control," he says.

Retired Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney, the former assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, also warns of the spread of nuclear weapons. He says President Obama should be considering a regime change in North Korea to prevent this.

"In North Korea, it would have to be through covert, through other ways of opening up. I'm not prepared right now to discuss the how. But the fact is, if we don't, it means that Japan, South Korea are going to have to go nuclear to deter this threat," McInerney says.

Tough Action Needed

The U.S. is working with the United Nations Security Council to develop a diplomatic response to North Korea's nuclear test. Pyongyang has ignored past U.N. resolutions demanding it stop testing nuclear weapons; and some U.N. member states have not even enforced punitive sanctions targeting North Korean businesses.

Peter Huessy, of the national security consulting firm, Geo-Strategic Analysis, says Washington needs to take more aggressive action.

"One of the things we could do is divestment. Meaning, if you do business with the United States economically, you do not do business with North Korea and Iran, or its entities, or its cut-out groups and so forth, and its businesses. We don't do that," he says.

Huessy also recommends that the Obama administration cut off North Korea from the international banking system.

"That is the one leverage you have over them, which we ought to exercise as soon as possible because it's the only thing they understand," he says.

The U.S. successfully employed this tactic in 2005, when it froze about $25 million of allegedly laundered money North Korea had deposited in a Macau bank. Pyongyang only returned to international nuclear talks after the money was released.

Scheber says no matter what the U.S. does, it will need the help of Russia and China.

"There is a view that I subscribe to that we only have leverage to the extent that the rest of the international community is willing to work with us and not undermine that leverage," he said.

China and Russia in the past have refused to support stronger U.N. sanctions on North Korea. Their reaction to Pyongyang's latest actions could be a key factor in determining Washington's next step.

US Pressing China on North Korea

The United States is pressing China for meaningful assistance to stop North Korea from exporting nuclear technology and materials--maybe, even, warheads and bombs--and there are signs that China may be willing to cooperate. Click here for the New York Times report.

US, South Korea Prepare for N. Korean Provocations

The United States and South Korea are preparing for a wide range of possible provocations by North Korea, including border skirmishes, maritime incidents, and attempted kidnappings by the North of civilians and military personnel for use as hostages.

The U.S. and South Korea South Korea raised their defense alert levels on the Korean Peninsula Thursday, a day after the North said it was abandoning the 56-year-old armistice that paused the Korean War. The allied defense alert conditions were boosted to the second highest in a five-level structure.

Also on Thursday, the Pentagon sought to downplay the possibility of military action. AFP reports:

The United States has detected no major troop movements in North Korea or renewed work at a plutonium reprocessing plant, amid tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear test, a U.S. defense official said Thursday.

"We haven't seen any" movement of troops, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Seoul's Defense Ministry earlier said air and ground forces are keeping a closer watch on the border with the communist North, after North Korea said it is abandoning the armistice signed to end the Korean War in 1953.

Tensions have mounted since the North tested a nuclear bomb Monday and than test-fired five short-range missiles.

Raising the "Watch Conditions" alert level for U.S. and South Korean forces meant stepped up intelligence and surveillance efforts, but no redeployment of U.S. in South Korea, said the defense official.

"This is a prudent step but it doesn't involve movement of forces," he said.

The Pentagon has sought to play down the possibility of any U.S. military action, referring reporters' questions about North Korea to the State Department.

There is Still Time to Stop the Axis of Evil

The Axis of Evil is playing with nuclear fire.

North Korea's Stalinist/Kimist/criminal regime and Iran's monstrous mullahocracy have made clear their respective intentions. North Korea intends to take over South Korea, dominate Japan, and drive the United States from the Korean Peninsula. Iran intends to destroy Israel, dominate the Middle East, and drive the U.S. from the region.

Iran also muses openly about "a world without America and Israel," in the infamous words of Iranian maniac-in-chief Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Working together, the atheist Communists and the apocalyptic Islamists are already capable of attacking the U.S. by launching nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles from cargo ships flying flags of convenience, or by using shipping containers to smuggle nuclear weapons into U.S. ports. The partners in nuclear/missile proliferation and crime don't need ICBMs to bring America to its knees.

What should the U.S. do?

The U.S. should prepare for war and support its allies, South Korea, Japan, and Israel.

At the same time, the U.S. should make every effort possible to preserve the peace by reaching out to rising China and resurgent Russia. Washington should be able to find a way to work with its rivals to prevent World War III. China, with whom the U.S. is locked into a strange, symbiotic relationship, has life-and-death leverage over North Korea. The Chinese-North Korean relationship is so close it has been described as being like lips and teeth. Russia has influence in Iran--and some leverage. It's time for Beijing and Moscow to step up to the plate.

It's also time for the new U.S. President, Barack Obama, to reverse his policy of appeasement toward Iran and its Islamist proxies. He could still prevent World War III--instead of making it inevitable--by acting more like his party's greatest President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the man who led the U.S. to victory over the Great Depression and the Axis that started World War II, and less like the most disastrous Democratic Commander-in-Chief in history, the one-termer Jimmy Carter, whose administration's cynical betrayal of Iran's Shah and appeasement of the modernizing monarch's Islamist enemies three decades ago were ironically responsible for ruining the Carter Presidency and laying the groundwork for today's looming conflict with Tehran.

Obama May Address 'Muslim World' From Cairo Mosque Where Jews are Called Monkeys and Pigs

Islamist sympathizers and apologists are delighted that America's first Muslim-born President (according to Islamic religious law, which traces religion through the father), Barack Hussein Obama, has been invited by and is said to be considering Cairo's Al-Azhar University for his upcoming (June 4) address to "the Muslim world."

No non-Muslim in memory has ever received such an invitation.

The Islamist fifth column, fellow travelers, and useful idiots are busy spreading the word that the venue is ideal for Obama's scheduled speech in Egypt--following an overnight dinner date in Riyadh with the King of Saudi Arabia--because the university and associated mosque are known for tolerance and a commitment to intellectual honesty.

Baloney. Al-Azhar--the bastion of Islamic law, or Sharia, according to the Sunni branch of the faith--is a backward and intolerant institution, riddled with covert Muslim Brotherhood operatives and agents. Individuals who behind closed doors (with walls that have no ears) praise the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and express thanks for the rise of Al Qaeda--a Muslim Brotherhood offshoot--are deeply involved in all aspects of the institution.

Andrew Bostom, an authority on Islamic anti-Semitism writes in New York's Daily News:

For over a thousand years, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, has served as the academic shrine - much as Mecca is the religious shrine - of the global Muslim community. Al Azhar University and its mosque represent the pinnacle of Islamic religious education.

A front page New York Times story published Saturday Jan. 10, 2009, included extracts from the Friday sermon (the day before) at Al Azhar mosque by Egyptian-government appointed cleric Sheik Eid Abdel Hamid Youssef. Referencing well-established antisemitic motifs from the Koran (citations provided, below), Sheikh Youssef intoned:

"Muslim brothers, God has inflicted the Muslim nation with a people whom God has become angry at [Koran 1:7] and whom he cursed [Koran 5:78] so he made monkeys and pigs [Koran 5:60] out of them. They killed prophets and messengers [Koran 2:61/3:112] and sowed corruption on Earth. [Koran 5:33/5:64] They are the most evil on Earth. [Koran 5:62 /63]"

Is US Policy on North Korea Insane?

The Obama administration's response to North Korea's second nuclear test seems to fit Albert Einstein's famous definition of insanity--"doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." AFP reports:

The United States will keep working toward a diplomatic resolution with North Korea despite its latest nuclear and missile tests, a Pentagon official said in an interview published in Japan Wednesday.

"We haven't shut the door to diplomacy," Michael Schiffer, the US deputy assistant secretary of defense for East Asia, was quoted as telling the Nikkei business daily.

Diplomacy has failed to stop North Korea from developing and testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles capable of delivering the weapons. In other words, the North not only has a Nagasaki-sized atomic bomb; it is capable of dropping the bomb on Nagasaki ... and on Osaka, Hiroshima, and Seoul.

Nor has diplomacy stopped the Stalinist/Kimist state from spreading its nuclear knowhow, technology and materials to Iran and Syria. In fact, North Korean-Iranian cooperation in nuclear/missile development is closer than ever.

More diplomacy of the sort that provides the partners in nuclear/missile crime with yet more time to develop their weapons of mass destruction is not the solution. As former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger recently asked, if the international community cannot find the right mix of penalties and incentives to prevent North Korea and Iran from engaging in nuclear proliferation and threatening other countries with destruction, then, what is the point of even talking about an international system?

NY Times Attack on Israel Recalls Nazi Propaganda

Iran's de facto agent of influence, the New York Times' Roger Cohen, a genuine Jewish anti-Semite in the tradition of Walter Lippmann--the revered liberal journalist who praised Hitler--has stooped to a level of Israel-hatred that is astonishing even by the standards of the newspaper's Op-Ed page. Click here for Cohen's incredible essay, which recalls the anti-Semitic propaganda of the Nazis in Germany and their supporters and sympathizers in the United States during the 1930s.

The article's shocking title, "Obama in Netanyahu's Web," seems deliberately aimed at exploiting a popular, prewar Nazi motif--that of a Jewish spider strangling Europe--which dates to anti-Semitic works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Jewish spider theme was adopted by Israel's Arab enemies after the founding of the state--an event that Cohen and his anti-Israel friends in Europe clearly regard as a terrible mistake in urgent need of correction.

WARNING: Reading Roger Cohen can cause vomiting.

What Does North Korea Want?

What does North Korea want?

China Confidential analysts--the same people who accurately predicted both North Korean nuclear tests--warn the international community is misreading North Korea's intentions. The reclusive, totalitarian (Stalinist/Kimist) state is aiming higher, much higher, than commonly believed.

Though it is tempting to see North Korean leaders as gangsters who blast rockets over Japan and blow up nuclear bombs--instead of breaking legs and windows--in order to pressure their victims into paying protection money--criminals who capture and hold reporters hostage instead of kidnapping rich celebrities and industrialists for ransom money--this view of the gang in Pyongyang is dangerously misleading. True, the North wants money, and has proven that it will do almost anything to get it, including drug dealing and counterfeiting ... and selling nuclear materials, technology and knowhow, and maybe, even, actual bombs and warheads to its ally, Iran, and friend, Syria. But that's only part of the story.

What the North wants--what makes it so scary--is South Korea. Its intentions are to take over the South, to drive the United States from the Korean Peninsula, and to dominate Japan.

More important, Pyongyang is prepared to use military means, including nuclear weapons, to achieve its imperialist objectives.

Reuters reports:

Russia is taking security measures as a precaution against the possibility tension over North Korea could escalate into nuclear war, news agencies quoted officials as saying on Wednesday.

Interfax quoted an unnamed security source as saying a stand-off triggered by Pyongyang's nuclear test on Monday could affect the security of Russia's far eastern regions, which border North Korea.

"The need has emerged for an appropriate package of precautionary measures," the source said.

"We are not talking about stepping up military efforts but rather about measures in case a military conflict, perhaps with the use of nuclear weapons, flares up on the Korean Peninsula," he added. The official did not elaborate further.

North Korea Threatens to Attack South Korea

Brian Klein, a fellow with the Council of Foreign Relations, has contributed an excellent piece on North Korea to the New York Times Op-Ed page. Click here to read it. But we disagree with his assertion that the

danger of military confrontation on the peninsula is fairly remote, simply because the North cannot escape the devastating consequences of an attack. Firing a nuclear-tipped missile at Japan or the U.S., if and when capable, is also an extremely remote possibility; it would mean the annihilation of the regime.

China Confidential analysts believe the chances of military confrontation are steadily increasing, as shown by this:

North Korea on Wednesday threatened to launch military strikes against South Korea if any of its ships were stopped or searched as part of an American-led operation to intercept vessels suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction.

The North isn't bluffing, according to China Confidential analysts, who say the secretive Stalinist/Kimist state is ready to ratchet tensions up all the way to a full-blown war.

China Confidential is the only media outlet that accurately predicted both North Korean nuclear tests, including predicting the exact test dates. Using open source intelligence and an international network of volunteer stringers and analysts, China Confidential has consistently out-reported the mainstream media on the twin threats to world peace--nuclear-armed North Korea and nuclear-arming Iran.

Obama Should Work for World Peace by Reaching Out to China and Russia, Instead of 'Muslim World'

No good will come from President Barack Obama's engagement of Iran and outreach to "the Muslim world."

Appeasement of Iran will make war inevitable--on Tehran's terms. Treating predominantly Muslim nations as a collective, supranational power will embolden radical Islam and encourage Islamist/fundamentalist terrorism and extremism and the toppling of secular leaders in Arab countries.

Obama's attempts at arriving at a Grand Bargain with nuclear-arming, Islamist Iran (at Israel's expense) in order to pacify Pakistan and Afghanistan are fueling fears of encirclement on the part of rising China and resurgent Russia. The two allies are convinced that the United States never abandoned its Cold War strategy of using political Islam (and also Tibetan separatism in China's case) as weapons against them. Their Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which includes Iran and Pakistan as observers, is meant to counter U.S. power and influence in Central Asia.

The fears of the former rivals for leadership of the world Communist movement--who are now more closely aligned than ever before--are not entirely unjustified, given the documented history of covert U.S. support for the Dalai Lama during the 1950s, '60s and early '70s, and, more recently, the clandestine war on the side of the jihadist warlords of Afghanistan, launched by the Carter administration and escalated by the Reagan administration into the largest covert operation in U.S. history, which was instrumental in bringing down the Soviet empire.

With the above in mind, Obama should consider working toward a Grand Bargain, or, at least, toward a constructive understanding, with Beijing and Moscow, instead of with Iran and Islamism, for the purpose of preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and restoring an urgently needed measure of order and stability in the world. Summits and speeches in China, Russia, and Washington, D.C. are far more important and much more likely to advance the cause of world peace, including peace in the Middle East and peace on the divided Korean Peninsula, than a bizarre Presidential address to barbaric Muslim nations from Egypt--an event that is certain to be interpreted by the so-called Muslim/Arab street as both a sign of weakness on the part of the U.S. and proof of divine backing for the cause of global jihad.

North Korea Restarts Nuclear Plant

U.S. spy satellites have detected signs that North Korea has restarted its nuclear plant, according to a South Korean newspaper.

The large-circulation Chosun Ilbo is reporting that the the U.S. has detected steam coming from a reprocessing facility at North Korea's main Yongbyon nuclear plant. The paper cited an unnamed South Korean government source.

North Korea recently said it was restarting the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel rods to harvest weapons-grade plutonium at the Yongbyon plant in response to international criticism of its April 5 rocket launch.

Obama Adds Saudi Visit to Mideast Itinerary

If Israel has a friend in the White House, it is not the President of the United States.

In a clear insult to Israel, Barack Obama today added a meeting with the King of Saudi Arabia--in the Saudi capital, Riyadh--to an upcoming visit to Egypt. Obama is deliberately not stopping in Israel as a way of highlighting its diminished standing in U.S. eyes.

Obama's Saudi visit will take place the day before his scheduled speech to "the Muslim world" from Cairo, Egypt, on June 4. He plans to dine with the King, before whom he recently bowed--unlike any U.S. President in history--deeply and submissively, from the waist--and spend the night in the oil-rich family-business-disguised-as-a-country, which has no human rights and is still known for public beheadings, before heading to Egypt.

How heady ... as in stupefying ... and how horrible ... for Israel and America ... and the cause of freedom worldwide.

Could Iran Outsource an A-Bomb Test to N. Korea?

Following North Korea's test-firing of two more short-range missiles off its east coast on Tuesday, a reader asks if there is any truth to the rumor that North Korea conducted its second nuclear test for Iran--meaning, was the bomb made in Iran?

The answer, as far as we can tell, is no.

But the idea is not as far-fetched as it may seem. Unless it is stopped, Islamist Iran could one day outsource a nuclear weapon test to its Stalinist/Kimist ally.

Iran could also order up an atomic bomb and drop-ship it--literally--to the United States, using North Korea as a manufacturer and fulfillment center. Iran could arrange and pay for delivery of the weapon--to a U.S. coastal city by an Iranian or North Korean-controlled cargo ship flying a so-called flag of convenience. Thousands of civilian vessels approach U.S. coastal waters daily; millions of containers are delivered annually; warhead-tipped missiles could be fired from such ships, using already tested, containerized launch systems; bombs could be smuggled into busy ports for detonation. A relative handful of containers are inspected; and there is no defense against sea-based ballistic missile attacks, aimed at the cities or high above the country in an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack designed to wipe out the electric power grid and most electronics and communication systems.

In a move that indicates growing concern over the North Korean-Iranian nuclear threat, South Korea said Tuesday that it would join a U.S.-led initiative to intercept ships suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction.

Israeli defense experts are increasingly concerned about a possible EMP attack on the Jewish State. A knockout blow to electronic and communication systems could paralyze the country and allow for an all-out assault by Hezbollah, Hamas, and Syria with coordinated uprisings by radicalized Israeli Arabs. In such a scenario, Iran could be responsible for the sneak attack--delivered by a foreign-flagged vessel--that could theoretically pave the way for the conquest of Israel while affording Iran a measure of plausible deniability.

North Korea Ready to Test More Missiles With Iranian Help; Another Korean War is Possible

Amid reports that North Korea plans to test-fire missiles from its west coast, following its second nuclear test, China Confidential analysts say the international community continues to underestimate and understate the North Korean threat to world peace.

The Stalinist/Kimist state will never abandon atomic arms. It intends to use them to blackmail the United States, South Korea and Japan, ahead of actually taking over the South, driving the U.S. out of the region, and dominating Japan.

Another Korean war is not only possible but increasingly likely.

China Confidential analysts also assert that North Korea and Iran are cooperating even more closely than commonly believed. Sources say Iranian nuclear experts assisted the North Korean nuclear test and will assist the missile tests.

While the world focuses on Iran's nuclear enrichment and ballistic missile programs, not enough attention is paid to the possible transfer of a North Korean nuclear weapon to the Islamist nation, which has vowed to destroy Israel.

Not for nothing have North Korea and Iran successfully test-fired ballistic missiles from cargo ships. No nation with coastal cities can defend these population centers against sea-based ballistic missile attacks.

The Axis of Evil is real. Appeasement will make war inevitable--on Axis terms.

China Confidential is the only media outlet in the world that accurately predicted both North Korean nuclear tests, including the actual test dates. Click here for the story. Did N. Korea Short the Yen Ahead of Nuclear Test?

China Confidential has learned that Japanese and South Korean analysts are searching for evidence of North Korean currency market manipulation ahead of the North's second nuclear test.

The yen fell from near its highest level in more than two months against the dollar after North Korea detonated a Nagasaki-sized nuclear bomb-- Pyongyang's first nuclear test in three years--and launched three short-range missiles, threatening the region’s security.

The yen traded at 94.82 per dollar by 3:40 p.m. in New York on May 25, from 94.77 on May 22, after earlier dropping to 95.21. Japan’s currency slipped to 132.80 per euro, from 132.67.

North Korea Tests Another Nuclear Weapon on US Memorial Day as China Confidential Predicted May 8

On May 8 China Confidential reported:

As many of our readers know, China Confidential was first to report that North Korea plans to detonate another nuclear device. We have since repeatedly said that the Stalinist/Kimist state could conduct its second nuclear test as early as July 4 in order to overshadow U.S. Independence Day.

In fact, North Korea could be aiming for a different U.S. holiday. Pyongyang could be moving to test a nuclear weapon this month. An underground explosion on or around Monday, May 25 is possible. The last Monday in May is Memorial Day and the unofficial start of the summer vacation season in the United States.

China Confidential analysts also expect the Stalinist/Kimist state to test-fire more missiles, especially medium-range ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons and striking both Japan and South Korea.

China Confidential predicted on October 5, 2006 that North Korea would conduct its first-ever nuclear weapon test on Oct. 9, 2006.

We were right, unfortunately.

Reuters reports:

World leaders condemned North Korea for carrying out nuclear and missile tests and U.S. President Barack Obama said Pyongyang's actions were a reckless challenge warranting action from the international community.

As nations prepared for emergency U.N. Security Council talks on Monday, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana branded the test a "flagrant violation" of a Council resolution which required "a firm response."

The nuclear device was as powerful as the bomb that the U.S. dropped on Nagasaki in World War II.

China Confidential analysts say Iranian nuclear experts assisted in the test.

Obama Plan for Israel's Capital: Palestinian Flag Over East Jerusalem, UN Flag Over Old City

U.S. President Barack Obama has agreed to support the Saudi demand that Palestinian Arabs (led by Iranian proxy Hamas) be permitted to establish their capital in East Jerusalem, which was captured by Israel in the defensive Six Day War in 1967. But the walled Old City at the heart of Jerusalem, where the holiest site of Judaism--the Western Wall--and the principal holy sites of Christianity are located, would become an international enclave and fly the United Nations flag, according to the Obama plan--a final solution to the "problem" of Jewish national liberation in the Land of Israel.

Obama Will be a One-Term President

Four months into the Presidency of Barack Hussein Obama, this reporter has seen enough to predict that BHO will not be sitting in the Oval Office in four years. Like the catastrophic Carter, the Mysterious Obama will be a one-termer.

Just as Jimmy Carter paved the way for President Reagan, Obama will open the door for a Republican comeback and the election in 2012 of Newt Gingrich or another center-right GOP candidate to lead the nation to recovery and wealth creation.

Not only will Obama fail to win reelection; he will probably not even run for a second term and either drop out or lose out to Hillary Clinton. Already marginalized, the Secretary of State will resign within 12 to 18 months to protest Obama's appeasement of Islamist Iran and Islamism in general--policies that will give Tehran's turbaned tyrants time to develop nuclear weapons and make war in the Middle East and terrorist attacks at home inevitable.

As for the economy--hollowed out by successive Republican and Democratic administrations--Obama's stimulus will not put America back to work. Instead, he will bankrupt the country, crush the middle class, and raise energy prices across the board. His cap-and-trade policy will prove to be a disastrous, disguised value added tax, a way to generate a trillion dollars of revenue for the federal government at the expense of ordinary Americans and small businesses--whose electricity and fuel bills will rise at the worst possible time. The oil cartel and petro-tyrants and terrorists will laugh all the way to the bank.

Obama's narcissistic personality will become a topic of everyday discussion. Ditto for his mysterious past. More and more Americans who voted for the Anointed One will ask themselves how they could have been so taken in, so bamboozled, so conned by a virtual unknown with a paper-thin resume.

The conservative blogosphere will at last be vindicated. There will be revelations that even the liberal mainstream media will be forced to cover.

A leading Democratic senator warned Sunday his party could support a potentially polarizing obstruction of President Barack Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court if he names an "activist" to the bench.

Parties in opposition to a sitting president traditionally call for moderation in a pick to the country's highest court, but moderate Democrat Ben Nelson issued a blunt warning from Obama's own party that the president should not choose someone seen as out of the mainstream.

"I don't care whether they're liberal or conservative," Nelson told Fox News Sunday in an interview. "I just want to make sure they're not activist. I don't want an activist on the bench."

NY Times Escalates Op-Ed Offensive for Iran

Iran's Holocaust-denying President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not get his job through the The New York Times (want ads). But he might keep it through the Times (Op-Ed page).

Sunday's edition of America's most influential anti-Israel newspaper featured yet another Op-Ed essay in favor of appeasing the nuclear-arming, Islamist nation and its Hitlerian proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah. Click here for the long and dense article, which criticizes President Obama for not going far enough, fast enough to meet the missile-mad mullahs.

The pro-Iran opinion piece blames U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her special regional adviser, Dennis Ross, for supposedly slowing down the pace of appeasement, accuses the Obama administration of continuing a covert campaign for regime change in Iran and maintaining a military option along with pushing for possibly meaningful sanctions on Tehran (if only this were true), and argues for allowing the monstrous mullahocracy to continue its nuclear enrichment program--which the authors compare to the peaceful program of democratic Japan, an important and loyal American ally. The essay also credits Iran with allegedly playing a key role in the defeat of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan after 9/11.

All of which, following the pro-Iran series by Times columnist Roger Cohen (who seems to be a genuine Jewish anti-Semite, in the tradition of Walter Lippmann) makes this Manhattan-born, American Jewish reporter wonder how any Jew in his right mind can continue to support the paper with advertising and subscriptions. Wonder ... but only for a moment ... until recalling that an overwhelming majority of American Jews voted for Obama over John McCain, a proven friend of Israel.

Did Iran's Proxy Kill a Former Lebanese Premier?

It looks like Hezbollah's American and European apologists will have to work overtime to help their Hitlerian, Islamist friends.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

In a bombshell report published Saturday, the German weekly Der Spiegel says the investigation into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is moving toward the conclusion that the Shiite militia Hezbollah was behind the attack.

N. Korea Preparing to Test Short-Range Missiles

Following a warning by China Confidential analysts on Tuesday that North Korea was planning a series of new provocations in order to raise international tensions,

North Korea appears to be preparing to test-fire short-range missiles after banning ships from waters off its northeast coast, a report said Friday.

A vehicle mounted with a missile launcher has been seen moving around for the past two or three days in an eastern coastal area of Hamkyong province, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted a government source as saying.

"Judging from an analysis of the movements, the North appears to be preparing to test-launch short-range missiles," the source was quoted as saying.

In Tokyo, Japan's Coast Guard said the communist state was warning ships not to pass through waters within a 130-kilometre (80-mile) radius of the town of Kimchaek.

It said the warning applied to the hours between 10:00 am (0100 GMT) and 6:00 pm until the end of this month.

Observing Obama's Appeasement of Iran, this American Jew Thinks Hitler Made Two Big Blunders

June is going to be some month.

It seems that President Barack Obama plans to visit Germany in connection with the 65th anniversary of D-Day on June 6 in order to apologize for America's bombing of German cities during World War II.

Go to Atlas Shrugs for the complete coverage.

The Apologizer-in-Chief's German speech will follow his June 4 address to the America-hating, Holocaust-denying "Muslim world" from Egypt--an outrageous stunt that will validate Islamist ideology and confirm the worst fears and suspicions of Obama's defense-minded critics, including this reporter. America's first Muslim-born, Third World-American President is effectively acting like an agent of influence for those who muse openly about "a world without America and Israel" or, at the very least, a world with no Israel and a crippled or severely weakened America.

Notwithstanding the above, there is, incredibly, no sign that large numbers of American Jews are prepared to speak out against the President. None. Zip. Zero. American Jews overwhelmingly voted for Obama, the Candidate of Change, in spite of the credible warnings and ample evidence that he would obsessively seek to create a Palestinian state at Israel's expense and "engage" nuclear-arming, Islamist Iran. After four months of Change, his support in the Jewish community seems rock solid. Besides, many Jews say, Obama's appointment of two prominent Jews to important positions--White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Presidential Senior Adviser David Axelrod--proves that Obama is OK for Israel. So what if the meeting with Bibi didn't go well? He's a right-winger, anyway. Under Obama, there was a kosher Passover seder in the White House! Progress! Hope! Change!

Hmm.... The head-spinning, stomach-turning developments make this lifelong, Jewish supporter of Israel think that Adolf Hitler made two big blunders in his quest for world domination. He attacked the Soviet Union, and he did not invite American Jewish leaders to a specially catered, kosher lunch in Berlin before the war.

Seriously. Had Hitler been able to hide his fanatical hatred of Jews for only a few hours, he might have been able to mobilize liberal American Jewish opinion in favor of a policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany--perhaps, even, a formal pledge of non-interference in Germany's internal affairs, such as the ones that future American administrations would give Fidel Castro after the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, or under Obama, be willing to offer Iran as part of a "Grand Bargain" to pacify the Middle East. A free, kosher lunch might not have been enough to win over the so-called Jewish leaders. The Nazi madman probably would have had to have made the effort of actually appointing a Jewish adviser (on Jewish affairs, say) to accomplish his aim.

So-Called Jewish Leaders

A high-level Jewish adviser--yes! That would have worked wonders for the Fuhrer. The Jewish Leaders would have returned home to reassure their concerned fellow Jews and the American media that Hitler had no intention of starting a war, regardless of Germany's ominous rearmament and military buildup, and that he was instead interested in forging a closer relationship between Germany and the United States, one that could possibly even lead to an alliance of some sort--a Grand Bargain--to preserve peace in Europe. As for "the Jewish Problem," the American Jewish bigwigs would have said that while some Jews were indeed suffering in Germany, there really was room for progress--quietly, of course, behind the scenes. Quiet, patient, principled diplomacy--that's the ticket!

And so it would have gone. Dialogue and diplomacy are the answers, the Jewish Leaders would have said; no sanctions, no big, public protests--they would only make matters worse for Germany's Jews and needlessly antagonize the Nazis--no talk of armed intervention or future conflict, heaven forbid. These insane ideas, inherently provocative and aggressive--especially in the midst of an economic crisis and in the wake of the First World War--would make war inevitable. That is what the Jewish Leaders would have said.

The impact of their meeting with Herr Hitler and call for engagement and dialogue would have been instant (or what passed for instant in the time before television and the Internet). Overnight, the brave minority warning of a rising, imperialist threat across the ocean would have been marginalized--maybe forever. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, there could have been a crucial decision by the U.S. government to avoid or delay declaring war on Germany as well as Japan, perhaps accompanied by a Presidential speech reminding the public of Germany's great contributions to Western civilization and culture and to the shaping of American society.

Isolationists and Fascists

Though the anti-Semitic rabble--the foot soldiers in armbands and jackboots and white sheets--would have been appalled by Hitler's meeting with Jewish Leaders, the Fuhrer's more sophisticated American supporters and sympathizers would have understood his diabolically clever move. Influential isolationists and fascists--the Pat Buchanans of that awful era--would have laughed all the way to the next America First or German American Bund (or Silver Shirts, or Black Legion, or Ku Klux Klan) rally. The (self-hating Jewish) Roger Cohen of that day--there is always a Roger Cohen whenever and wherever Jewish communities are threatened with annihilation and persecution--would surely have written a series of articles for the (ultra-assimilated, Jewish family-owned) New York Times about Jewish conditions in Germany being not so bad, after all, despite the beatings and racial laws, the persecution and the humilation, the incessant anti-Semitic propaganda, and all that. [In fact, the revered liberal columnist Walter Lippmann--a genuine Jewish anti-Semite--wrote approvingly of Hitler in the late 1920s, advising his readers that the Nazi leader would "moderate" his views upon achieving power.]

Now, this reporter knows what you are thinking. Obama is no Hitler. Obviously. God help us if that were the case. But Obama's policies and actions are giving new Hitlers--the leaders of Islamist Iran--time to develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles capable of destroying Israel and bringing America to its knees.

In other words, Obama's appeasement of Iran and betrayal of Israel is effectively helping to prepare the ground for a new Holocaust and a new world war.

Going Along

And American Jews and Jewish organizations ... seemingly slavishly bound to a Democratic Party with a left wing that now views the establishment of Israel as a mistake ... are going along for the ride. American Jewish voters overwhelmingly chose Obama over John McCain, a proven friend of Israel--and a genuine American hero--and they don't seem at all ready to jump ship. They are not even close to the exit ramp.

What will it take for American Jews to stand up and be counted? Will Obama's call for a Palestinian capital in Jerusalem open their eyes? Probably not. In contrast with bible believing Christians and observant Jews, liberal Jews are fashionably forsaking Israel's capital. Strong support for Israel is so yesterday ... so ... Bush/Cheney.

How sickening. This much your Confidential Reporter knows: the time is fast approaching for American Jewry, which turned its back on the Jews of Europe during the Great Depression of the 1930s ... out of fear of offending an extraordinarily popular American President and stirring up anti-Semitism by feeding the isolationist and pro-fascist propaganda that "the Jews" were aiming to drag America into another world war ... to decide between their loyalty to a political party that bears no resemblance to that which their parents and grandparents voted for and adored for generations and their professed love of Israel whose security ... along with the security of the United States ... is clearly being undermined by everything that Obama is presently doing, has done, and plans to do.

Which side are you on, American Jews--America and Israel or Obama and the Democratic Party?

Harold Koh's Terrifying Transnationalism

Obama Nominee for State Department Legal Adviser Says Islamic Law Could Apply in American Courts, Compares US to North Korea, Calls War on Terror 'Obsessive'

Meghan Clyne's article in the New York Post about Barack Obama's "perilous pick" for the top legal affairs job at the U.S. State Department is must reading--more than once.

Judges should interpret the Constitution according to other nations' legal "norms." Sharia law could apply to disputes in US courts. The United States constitutes an "axis of disobedience" along with North Korea and Saddam-era Iraq.

Those are the views of the man on track to become one of the US government's top lawyers: Harold Koh.

President Obama has nominated Koh -- until last week the dean of Yale Law School -- to be the State Department's legal adviser. In that job, Koh would forge a wide range of international agreements on issues from trade to arms control, and help represent our country in such places as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.

It's a job where you want a strong defender of America's sovereignty. But that's not Koh. He's a fan of "transnational legal process," arguing that the distinctions between US and international law should vanish.

Turkey's 'Post-Islamist' Ruling Party Undermines Secular System in Pursuit of 'Islamic Democracy'

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following article, by an international relations professor and former diplomat, W. J. Korab-Karpowicz, is an abridged version of a much longer essay. Click here to read the original work, an in-depth analysis of Turkey's "post-Islamist" ruling party.

The Justice and Development Party, known by its Turkish acronym, AKP, is Turkey 's incumbent political party. The AKP portrays itself as a moderate, conservative, pro-Western party that advocates a liberal market economy and Turkish membership in the European Union. In fact, Turkey 's AKP stands within the tradition of political Islam. The party supports Turkey ’s integration with the EU, foreign investments and privatization; at the same time, the party undermines secularism, the fundamental constitutional principle of the Turkish state. The AKP uses its pro-Western rhetoric and pro-business attitude as an instrument to achieve its political goals. It attempts to replace Turkey 's secular identity with an Islamic religious identity, thus opening the gate for the country’s complete transformation, from a secular to a religious state. Without the secularism that the Kemalist establishment defends, Turkey will be neither democratic nor truly pro-European. Therefore, the AKP does not deserve the support it gets from the Western press and EU politicians.

Ideological Conflict

The ideological conflict between the AKP and the Kemalist establishment is first of all about different views of secularism. The AKP’s leadership rejects the assertive, Kemalist concept of secularism that is written into the Turkish constitution and which they regard as “undemocratic and in contradiction to human rights and freedoms.” Instead of assertive secularism, they support liberal secularism, according to which, for example, wearing Islamic headscarf or using other forms of religious veiling does not violate the secular character of the public sphere, but is a matter of individual preference and should be allowed as a matter of free expression. Since liberal secularism is closer to today’s Western political experience than the assertive secularism, the AKP’s leaders are hailed as post-Islamist. This image is strengthened by their pragmatic, pro-business and pro-market economy attitudes, which have been adopted on purely instrumental grounds.

The AKP party leadership has realized “that having a democratic and European agenda would open a new path for transforming Turkish domestic politics.” In particular, it could restrain the political influence of the military. To weaken the position of the army, which has a constitutional obligation to defend the secular character of the Turkish state, is a logical Islamist goal. Consequently, one can argue that in spite of its pro-European image and rhetoric, the AKP cannot truly be regarded as a post-Islamist, but rather as an Islamist political party. The party’s real goal is not Westernization, but a new synthesis that can be inferred from the AKP’s concept of “conservative democracy,” as opposed to liberal democracy, in which conservative/local (Islamic) values are combined with democratic (modern) values, and the end product is an Islamic democracy.

Furthermore, it would not be without some justification to say that it shows complete political naiveté on the part of Western press and European politicians to in effect undermine the basis of secularization in Turkey by giving their support to the AKP and by repeatedly calling, as EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has done, for limitations on the Turkish military’s political power.

Arab States More Alarmed than US by Iran Proxy

As CNN talk show host Larry King might ask: Who woulda thunk it?

Arab countries are apparently more alarmed than the Obama administration by the regional rise of nuclear-arming Iran and its Islamist, Shiite proxy, Hezbollah--poised to take power in Lebanon.

The AP's Hamza Hendawi reports from Beirut:

Arab governments are starting to see the fingerprints of Lebanon's Hezbollah all over the Middle East, adding to their growing alarm over Iran's power and a widening Sunni-Shiite rift.

The worry comes at a time when Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political party backed by Iran, already is expected to make strong political gains inside Lebanon in June 7 elections.

The double whammy by Hezbollah — of growing political influence at home, coupled with more outreach abroad — has put the squeeze on traditional but waning Arab powers like Egypt, alraedy rattled by President Barack Obama's outreach to their foe Iran.

China Confidential analysts say Arab leaders are deeply concerned about the ramifications of President Obama's upcoming address to "the Muslim world" from Egypt, a U.S. ally threatened by the Muslim Brotherhood (which spawned Al Qaeda). The idea of an American President addressing the world's Muslims, instead of individual states--or the Arab world, which still includes Christians and other minorities--implicitly elevates organized Islam to the level of a supranational power in line with Islamist ideology.

In other words, after nearly eight years of official U.S. denials that Washington and its allies are engaged in a so-called clash of civilizations, America's first Muslim-born President (Islam traces religion through the father) is acknowledging the clash in an apparent attempt to marginalize Islamist terrorists and their supporters.

The Arab heads of state won't show their concerns; on the contrary, they can be expected to publicly praise Obama's "outreach." But leaders like Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak--the target of a recent Hezbollah/Egyptian Islamist assassination plot--fear that Obama's speech will effectively embolden extremists in his own country and across the region.

Report Understates Iran Threat and is Still Scary

Only a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meeting at the White House with U.S. President Barack Obama, during which the Israeli leader urged Obama to make Iran's nuclear threat his top foreign policy priority, the EastWest Institute released a U.S.-Russia joint threat assessment on Iran’s nuclear and missile potential. Click here to download the document.

More than a year in the making, the report was produced by a team of Russian and American scientists and experts brought together by the think tank.

The report asserts that Iran could produce a simple nuclear device within one to three years, and a nuclear warhead for ballistic missiles in six to eight years. The report also asserts that Iran will not be able, for at least 10 to 15 years, to independently master the technologies necessary for advanced intermediate-range ballistic missiles or intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Those timetables could be accelerated, the report notes, if Iran were to receive substantial outside help. While stressing that they do not know Iran’s political intentions, the report’s authors call on the U.S. and Russia to explore cooperative responses if Iran should try to “break out” as a nuclear power.

The report’s participants warn that European missile defenses will not provide dependable protection against an Iranian threat if and when it emerges.

China Confidential analysts believe Iran is six to nine months away from being able to mass produce nuclear bombs and warheads, with technology and assistance from North Korea, and that the Obama administration's diplomacy is giving Iran the time it needs to achieve its goals.

China Confidential analysts also believe that both Iran and North Korea are actively developing capabilities for striking the United States--delivering nuclear warheads into coastal cities and detonating nuclear warheads high above the heartland to wipe out the electricity grid, modern electronics, and communication systems--with ballistic missiles launched from "flag-of-convenience" cargo ships.

In fact, the two partners in nuclear/missile crime could be close to deploying such ships; worse, they could already be lurking offshore with North Korean nuclear-tipped missiles concealed in specially constructed shipping containers. These things actually exist; and North Korea and Iran have successfully tested them.

Thousands of vessels approach the U.S. every day. A SCUD-B or Cruise Missile fits into a 40-foot-long container. Such missiles could deliver 270-pound weapons of mass destruction from 200 miles off the East Coast. Missile warheads could contain bio-chemical weapons as well as nuclear devices.

Missiles launched from as far away as 350 miles offshore could reach most U.S. coastal cities.

The U.S. has no defense against sea-based, ballistic missile attacks.

Trigger Happy, Islamist Iranians and Stalinist North Koreans Intolerant of Any American Criticism

Appeasement of imperialist nations fans the flames of aggression.

The Obama administration's begging, bowing, and apologizing only serves to embolden America's worst enemies, Islamist Iran and Stalinist/Kimist North Korea--partners in nuclear/missile crime who openly threaten Washington with nuclear war, in the case of North Korea, and muse about "a world without America and Israel," in Iran's case.

Notice how every sign of weakness--every move toward appeasement of the enemy and abandonment of allies--encourages the rogue states to increase their demands and intensify their threats. Instead of responding to Obama's overtures with reciprocal gestures, the aggressors who plot and plan our civilization's doom seize every opportunity, every real or imagined insult, to show off their menacing, military might.

This week's events underscore the dangerous dynamic. Whereas every sane and fair-minded observer interpreted Obama's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as further evidence of a U.S. tilt toward Tehran, the monstrous mullahocracy took umbrage with the lip service that Obama and his advisers paid to possible additional sanctions on Iran if it refuses to budge on the nuclear issue. That was the message underlying the regime's successful test of a ballistic missile capable of striking Israel and southern Europe: don't even think about threatening or criticizing the Islamic Republic.

The clueless or complicit White House is making wars with North Korea and Iran inevitable--on their terms.

Reporter: Obama Aim is 'Muslim Summit'

Newsweek correspondent Richard Wolffe says U.S. President Barack Obama wants to call a "Muslim summit."

Fox News reports:

Obama, who will travel to Egypt next month to give a major speech to the Muslim world, told Wolffe he wants to convene a "Muslim summit."

"If I had a Muslim summit, I think that I can speak credibly to them about the fact that I respect their culture," Obama said, "that I understand their religion, that I have lived in a Muslim country, and as a consequence I know it is possible to reconcile Islam with modernity and respect for human rights and a rejection of violence. And I think I can speak with added credibility."
