Internal--meaning, party-only--reforms would include elections. A Reuters exclusive. Read it here.
Comment: Mao must be rolling in his grave. The party he ruled is unrecognizable; its legitimacy lost in the eyes of the masses. The news is important, however, confirming what many observers have predicted--namely, that the party will gradually move toward a more democratic one-party system. There will be more voting--within a party framework--and the leaders will eventually assert that China's model for developing nations is every bit as democratic as, say, America's two-party system, if not more so. Not for nothing have Reuters' sources timed this story for America's election day.
