Europe Turns to American Forests for Green Fuel

Desperately in need of wood pellets and wood chips as a result of carbon dioxide-cutting policy targets, Europe is "devouring" some American forests.

The supplies of wood--referred to as "fiber" in the forestry industry--are supposed to be certifiably sustainable. But environmentalists fear that the drive for an alternative to coal and nuclear power for baseload electricity needs could do more harm than good.
