Syria's Christians clearly support the Syrian regime, aware that an Islamist/Al Qaeda conquest of "the heartbeat of the Arab world" will mean annihilation of Christians and Alawites and enslavement of all secular Muslims.

Notice the term the Arab world. It exists, bound by culture and language; and it includes Christians and other minorities as well as secular Muslims not wanting to live under barbaric law. Time was, politicians and pundits in the United States and Europe paid a lot of attention to the Arab world.
