A region in Mexico once known for peaceful farming and tourism has become a no-go zone of drug-related gang warfare with battles--and beheadings--that resemble the chaos in Libya or Iraq.
The region's capital, Morelia, is about 1,500 road miles south of San Diego, California, some 300 miles greater than the drive from New York City to Miami Beach.
