Superbugs Seen as US National Security Threat

Though the link between cruel and inhumane factory farms and antibiotic resistance is well known, the US and Canada continue to subsidize factory farming.  Imagine if the public learned that terrorists had set up secret labs across North America to make drug-resistant superbugs capable of killing tens of millions of people. The outcry would be deafening…..

Antibiotic drug resistance is an increasing threat to global health security. Seventy percent of known bacteria have now acquired resistance to at least one antibiotic, threatening a return to the pre-antibiotic era.

The UK also considers antibiotic-resistant bacteria a major public health threat.

Factory farms are the biggest user of antibiotics. The link between factory farming and antibiotic resistant bacteria is well known. It's just a matter of time, experts warn, before a superbug capable of killing tens of millions of people emerges from a factory farm.

In other words, factory farms are potential WMD factories … besides being cruel and inhumane and downright disgusting.
